About us
Doing the right thing, the right way
We believe that care and support are about human rights, wellbeing, choice and control. We embed The 7 Keys to Citizenship, which promotes a meaningful life and allows for active citizenship. Whether we are working alongside stakeholders, families, or developing our team, we do the right thing, the right way.
We are Cura Care UK, the leading adult care and support provider in the North East.
We ensure that everybody we care for and support, and their loved ones, lives a meaningful life free from marginalisation and discrimination.
Our services are designed for the person and with the person, specifically for people who require care for Learning Disabilities, Mental Ill-health, Autism and those affected by trauma.
We tailor care and support to each person’s needs, collaborate with families and professionals, respect individuality, take an empathetic approach, and ensure that everyone we support feels safe and protected.
In practice, this means our values uphold human rights, protect dignity, and make sure people feel respected and included. They also enhance wellbeing—because true care is about nurturing love, belonging, and fulfilment.
Our Values
Our values shape the way we care and support. The way we work with stakeholders, and the way we develop our teams. Each value reflects our commitment to providing high-quality, person-centred care and is deeply rooted within our company. They are woven into our history, our culture, and the way we’ve grown. They are the foundation of our story and continue to guide every decision we make as we look to the future.

What Our Values Mean in Practice
Tailored
No two people are the same, which is why we believe care should never be one-size-fits-all. Our services are tailored to each individual’s needs, preferences, and circumstances. Whether we are supporting an individual, working with a stakeholder, or developing our team, everything we do is personal.
Collaboration
We achieve the best outcomes when we work together. By partnering with specialist services and like-minded organisations, we create joined-up solutions that truly make a difference. Collaboration is at the heart of our mission—ensuring we can provide holistic, responsive care for those who need it most.
Individuality
Every person we support is unique, with their own story, choices, and place within society. We respect individuality and celebrate diversity, making sure each person feels valued for who they are. Our approach empowers people to live life in a way that reflects their identity, beliefs, and aspirations.
Understanding
Compassion and empathy underpin our care and support. We recognise the importance of families and significant relationships in every person’s life. By listening and understanding, we deliver care that not only supports the individual but also strengthens the bonds that matter most to them.

Safe
Safety is our priority. From the people we care for to the people we employ, everyone has the right to feel protected from harm. We uphold the highest standards in safeguarding, governance, and training to make sure safety is never compromised.
Living Our Values
Our values are not just words on a page—they are at the heart of every decision we make and every service we provide. They guide us in delivering compassionate, professional care and in building meaningful relationships.
By linking our values to The 7 Keys to Citizenship, we can see the difference they make in people’s everyday lives. At Cura Care UK, this impact can be summed up in three powerful ways:
- First, our values protect and uphold human rights, ensuring that everyone we support is treated with dignity, respect, and safety, and recognised as a valued member of society.
- Second, they enhance wellbeing, because care is not just about meeting needs but about nurturing love, belonging, and the opportunity to live a fulfilling life within family and community.
- Finally, our values promote choice and control, empowering individuals with the freedom to shape their own future, make decisions about their home, finances and lifestyle, and find meaning and purpose in their daily lives.
Our Mission
The people we support can often present with needs that are defined by medical terminology or labels. Whilst we should acknowledge a person’s disability, illness or disease, this should not define them as a person. However, the focus should not be on the deficit the disability, disease or illness may have on their life, but on the strengths and resourcefulness the person has in a framework that encompasses wellbeing and belonging.
Too often, people with a disability, whether physical or mental, resign themselves to a life that is less than those who are perceived to have ‘ability’. Let’s look at the mere history of the terminology used.
There are various quotes and historical meanings, they all however, have the same thread of dis = “lack of” and ability = “having sufficient power or means”.
Notably, using such terminology implies a focus on what a person cannot do. We also need to be respectful of communication and the language we use.
Not just in verbal conversation but in written documentation, which so often focusses on the deficit and its effect on activities of daily living, therefore loses the focus of wider holistic wellbeing.
